Partnerships

Community Leaders and Civic Leaders elevate RTP's rebuilding efforts in unique ways. Partnerships at these levels not only support individual homeowners in need, but also link to neighborhood revitalization efforts. Many thanks to the following partners for their sponsorship of Block Builds and other high-impact projects in 2010-2011.

Philadelphia Water Department

“Green City Clean Waters” is the City of Philadelphia's commitment to invest $2 billion over the next 25 years in order to transform our urban landscape and neighborhoods. Part of this initiative is a unique partnership with RTP launched in Cobbs Creek in the fall of 2010. To put innovative stormwater management tools into a concentrated area, the Philadelphia Water Department sponsored a Green Build as the inaugural event of a “Greens Homes” initiative. On November 6, 100+ volunteers installed 19 flowthrough planters, 12 rain barrels and a rain garden; these 32 homeowners also received educational tools for managing stormwater run off more effectively. Collectively, these homeowners will relieve some of the burden of the combined sewer system that runs beneath Spruce Street. Stormwater management is a new layer of service that RTP can provide for communities in need, and it is very much aligned with our longstanding commitment to energy efficiency. Going forward, stormwater management will be integrated, whenever feasible, into other critical repair, safe at home, and healthy home projects.

CREW Philadelphia

CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Philadelphia chose RTP as its Community Partner recipient of the proceeds from the 12th annual Charitable Holiday Luncheon held on November 18, 2010. The Holiday Luncheon is the largest fund-raising event hosted by CREW Philadelphia each year. Now a Signature Event within the region's real estate community, this year's President Tracy Steele, Partner with Morgan Lewis, MC'd the event. Sharon N. Humble, Esq., a long-time CREW member and Partner at the firm of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP was the event's Community Outreach Chair. Sharon is no stranger to RTP. Once she was introduced to our mission and work, she not only advocated for RTP to be a beneficiary of the CREW luncheon, she also enlisted her firm's financial and volunteer sponsorship of RTP in the spring of 2010.

Over the past ten years, CREW Philadelphia has raised more than $650,000 to support programs that provide opportunities for women and children that might not otherwise be available to them. We are delighted that CREW Philadelphia recognized that RTP was equally committed to supporting women and children. CREW Network is a national organization devoted to influencing the success of the commercial real estate industry by advancing the achievements of women.

Cricket Communications

As a first time sponsor to RTP in 2009, Cricket shot to the top of the ranks with a very large sponsorship of our Walnut Hill Block Build project. You've probably heard Cricket commercials or seen its billboards – R-E-S-P-E-C-K-T! Cricket respects communities, and its presence is apparent throughout the communities that RTP traditionally serves. What a natural match with RTP! When Cricket entered the Philadelphia market in full force, they chose RTP to help it make an equally strong impact on the communities that buy its cell phones and wireless services.

The origins of this sponsorship start back in the late 1990s when John Long, now Vice President of Marketing at Cricket Communications, was a Wharton Graduate student and led West Philadelphia Operations with distinction. His life-altering experience back then has ushered this relationship, resulting into a “platinum” national partnership that is having a significant impact on six cities across the country. Here in Philadelphia, in the fall of 2009, Cricket employees helped five low-income homeowners with essential repairs, worked on streetscaping projects, and hosted a palooza of activities for neighborhood residents. Cricket's sponsorship anchored RTP's spring activities in West Philadelphia in 2010. In the fall of 2010, Cricket helped 10 homeowners in the St. Hugh neighborhood of North Philadelphia, kicking off our work in this neighborhood where we'll return in the spring of 2011 for another Block Build.

Wells Fargo

As one of the nation's leading mortgage lenders, Wells Fargo knows a great deal about making homeownership dreams come true. The company is committed to giving back to the communities where its customers, staff and business associates live and work. Founded in 1993, the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation is committed to increasing low- to moderate-income homeownership through the development of affordable housing. Like RTP, it is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves a decent, safe place to call home. The Foundation is a first-time Community Leader for this year through its Team Member Volunteer Program (TMVP). The TMVP provides financial support to nonprofit organizations such as RTP to support Wells Fargo team members in building, renovating, painting or repairing homes for low- to moderate-income homeowners. RTP received the maximum grant size for this program! The grant will provide significant resources for the spring Block Builds. A crew of Wells Fargo team members will be on site during Rebuilding Days this spring, adding their sweat equity to the corporate foundation's sponsorship.
