| At its core, each repair project focuses on the same “warm-safe-dry” issues yet each also is unique. One preserves affordable homeownership for a son who inherited the house he grew up in or reduces energy bills for a family or prepares a safe environment for an aging couple or ensures that a woman with physical disabilities can live a full and independent life. Volunteers will help approximately 75 homeowners by June 30, generating 75 stories of a higher quality life. |
RTP's West Philadelphia logistics have a decidedly military air. Carl Wojtaszek, a Wharton student who has risen to the rank of Major at West Point, is at the helm. He has leveraged his training to gain control over the movement of tools, supplies, and people so that every volunteer is well equipped to take on the repair projects in the most efficient way. His methods are being embraced by his successor and will become ingrained into Operations Planning. |
More than 100 homeowners responded to a special selection process designed to find a low-income homeowner with a physical disability who could benefit from significant home repairs and home modifications. This response not only affirmed the tremendous need for RTP's services throughout the region, but also expanded RTP's community outreach network. RTP is developing new relationships with organizations such as Liberty Resources, a nonprofit that advocates and promotes independent living for persons with disabilities. |
