Belmont Homeowner Spotlight: Ernestine Brown
The neighborhood is very family oriented. Everyone on the 4200 block of Ogden Street is helpful, active and involved in the community and always wants to help where they can.
Ernestine Brown has lived in her home on Ogden Street for 34 years. She currently lives with her granddaughter and her brother lives down the street. Ernestine suffers from mobility issues associated with back and hip injuries, asthma, emphysema, and COPD. Ernestine loves that her neighborhood works together to promote a clean, healthy environment. They sweep the streets regularly and recently rehabbed a vacant lot with the help of their community group. On March 31, April 1 and 2, RTP volunteers will be making safe and healthy home repairs that include completing mobility accommodations for Ernestine so that she can complete daily tasks, ripping out old and dusty carpet, installing vinyl flooring, installing a new roof and replacing a rear exterior door that is difficult to lock and prevents safe exit through the rear of the house in case of emergency. Ernestine is most excited about having her carpet removed and the installation of vinyl flooring as she believes the carpet contributes to her difficulty breathing. Ernestine can’t wait to see all the volunteers come out to make repairs to her home.
